Building Credit History
 


Building your credit history and score is very important in today's society, especially since the laws are changing. We are moving into a system that is making it difficult for us to get ahead unless we have excellent, or at least good credit history.

Your credit score is important if you plan on renting an apartment, obtaining a student loans, or applying for loans or credit cards, as well as getting jobs. Nowadays if you do not have a major credit card, it is nearly impossible to make purchases online or to even reserve a hotel room.

Bad credit leads to major frustration and headaches that you will want to avoid. If you have a bad credit score on your credit report, it takes seven long years before the credit is cleared and ten years for bankruptcies to be removed from your files. Therefore, if you want to save yourself some headaches it is time to get started rebuilding and improving your credit history.

To rebuild credit you have to keep a constant watch of the activities on your credit report. To obtain copies of your credit report you need to contact the three B's. TransUnion, Equifax and Experian and request updated copies of your reports. After you review your credit reports make sure there are no inaccurate claims against you on the report. If you notice, any inaccurate claims make sure to file a dispute immediately with each of the credit bureaus that show the inaccurate claim.

You are protected by law and it is the credit bureaus obligations to investigate the claims and clear up any incorrect ones. After your have cleared up any incorrect allegations on your report, your next step is to start paying down the accounts you have open on your credit report.

It is time to start saving money. If you do not have a credit history, it is time to get started. Building credit is essential for your future and your ability to live in today's society.

If you do not have a credit history, you might want to start by applying for a small personal loan or credit card with your local bank. If you are turned down, ask a family member or friend to help you out by co-signing with you to get approved. Make sure your family member or friend has established credit and their history is good.

Once you get a credit card or loan, make sure you meet each month's minimum payment and pay on time. If you miss any payments the co-signers are responsible to pick them up or it will affect their credit. Do not make enemies of those that have helped you out, pay your minimum due on time each month.

After about eight months of using your credit card or paying on your loan you will have a credit history and be able to apply for credit cards or loans in your own name without the help of a co-signer.

It is important that you continue working and can show a stable work history. Lenders will often question your stability and if you are moving around from home to home or else switching jobs the lenders are less likely to extend you credit.

After about twelve months, you will have built your credit to the point that if you continue this procedure you can apply for a home mortgage loan or car loan with an excellent chance of being approved for it.

It depends on your income level when bank lenders investigate your application to determine if you qualify for a loan. Therefore, if you are just getting started building credit your applications will take longer for consideration.

Getting started early in life is the trick to building a long stable credit history. Now if you have a good credit history already you want to maintain payments to avoid damaging your score and history.

Once you establish a bad credit history, it is much harder to get back on track for clearly and improving your credit score. The best solution for maintaining, building, or else reestablishing a solid credit history is to keep a close monitoring system on your financial situation.

If you are working full time and your base income per week is around $400 it is important that you find a budgeting system that works with your level of income. Do not spend more than you need to on credit. If you have a base income of $400 keep your spending below that level each week to build solid credit, maintain credit or else repair your credit history to a better score. Remember, credit history is important to your future and nowadays everyone judges you by your credit from bankers to employers.
